Stewardship at St James
Getting involved in the life of the church
United Methodists Promise to Be Active in the Local Church
Most churches have an annual stewardship campaign. It is usually held in the fall so the information gathered can inform the church budget for the new year. Stewardship often includes (and sometimes is limited to) promising a certain amount of financial support to the church. This is a good and needed idea. However, stewardship is much more than that.
When joining the United Methodist Church, you are asked to take membership vows. We don’t give you a Bible knowledge test. We don’t ask for references or do a background check. You don’t sign a contract. But we do ask you to participate—to be active in the life of the church.
United Methodists vow to faithfully participate in the church’s ministries by their prayers, their presence, their gifts, their service, and their witness. And stewardship should involve ALL of these aspects.
In support of that, below is our 2024 Stewardship Pledge Form. It is identical to the forms we will hand out in church. Please prayerfully consider completing and submitting either this online form or a paper form at church. Will you read the commitments on the card? Will you pray about how God would want you to be involved?
Here is a link to a printable pledge card. You can print (Select ‘File’ at the top left and then click ‘Print’) and complete the card at home and bring it to church with you.
Part of the Stewardship Pledge deals with giving. HERE is an explanation of how pledged giving works at St James and why it is helpful.
2024 Stewardship Pledge
The earth is the LORD’s and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it. Psalm 24.1 In our membership vows, we promise to faithfully participate in our church's ministries by our prayers, our presence, our gifts, our service, and our witness.
