Racism is a problem that is not going away. In our baptismal vows, we promise to “resist evil, injustice, and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves”. The first step is to open a conversation on the topic.

This spring, we have the opportunity to do that. We are partnering with Catalina UMC to view a documentary and join in discussion with the director. The documentary is The Long Shadow. The Long Shadow follows former CNN Senior Producer, TED contributor, and Emmy-Award winning Director Frances Causey as she traces her family’s legacy of white privilege, placing it in the context of the history of anti-black racism in the United States that continues to impact our society today.

Here is how to participate:
-Watch the movie (length 60 minutes) anytime between April 5 & 13. http://thelongshadowfilm.com/catalina-and-st-james
-Attend the Q & A with director Frances Causey moderated by Rev. Dr. Dottie Escobedo-Frank on April 12, at 7 p.m.
