Notes for the sermon “Find Your One Thing”

from The Westminster Shorter Catechism:
Q. 1. What is the chief end of man?
A. Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.

What is my purpose? To receive God’s light and love and to share God’s light and love. (WHAT)

HOW you do this will vary from person to person according to your gifts, abilities, environment, and life experiences.

WHY you do this will be rooted in your connection to God and how you understand yourself.

We are social creatures, but we are also spiritual creatures.

Light-guidance, direction, lack of fear, openness

Love-giving, accepting, committed

I can’t give you what I don’t have.

I won’t give to you if I am afraid of not having enough.
If I give, but don’t receive, I will exhaust my ability to give.

You are not meant to be a lake. You are meant to be a river.

You are like an extension cord.

LIVE WITH OPEN HANDS.

John 15.1-12
