The Temptation in the Wilderness by Briton Riviere
Notes for the Sermon “Preparing for Lent”
“The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting. It is been found difficult and left untried.” -G.K. Chesterton
Each year, Lent gives us another opportunity to give living out our Christianity another try. We have another opportunity to be intentional about our faith.
Satan’s temptations to Christ:
1-You don’t have to fast, you can feast. Self-denial helps us acknowledge our true needs.
2-You don’t have to practice solitude, you can show off. When you practice solitude, you show you trust God.
3-You don’t have to submit-you can be sovereign. We do have to submit to God.
For Lent, take on one discipline in each area: self-denial, solitude, and submission.
