If you are a believer in Jesus, there are probably some things that bother you about your faith–some questions you can’t answer, some things you can’t explain, some realities you don’t understand. You have committed yourself to follow Jesus and have put your faith in Jesus, but that doesn’t mean you don’t still have doubts or concerns or struggles. You do. We all do. And that’s normal.
How about those of you who want to know more about Christianity? You might feel that there is more to life than you are experiencing right now. You wonder if Jesus is the missing piece in your life. But, there are things that religion seems unable to explain. Questions that you have never heard a church answer. You want to explore faith in Jesus, but there are some obstacles.
Our next study at St James is called “I Want to Believe, But…”. We will look at 5 common obstacles to faith. Here’s the thing, these obstacles are often based on a faulty view of God. We expect something from God or believe something about God that isn’t accurate.
October 8 Absentee God “I want to believe but I don’t sense God’s presence.”
October 15 Heartless God “I want to believe, but why does God allow so much suffering and evil in the world?”
October 22 Killjoy God “I want to believe, but Christianity just has too many rules.”
October 29 On Demand God “I want to believe, but God doesn’t answer my prayers.”
November 5 Strings Attached God “I want to believe, but God won’t like it if I have doubts.”
I don’t pretend to have all the answers. These messages come out of study and prayer and these ideas have helped me in my faith and I believe they will help you, too.
